Abstract. Statement of the problem. Today, much attention is paid to the development of the education system and professional training. In the professional training of fire protection personnel, the need for development is due to scientific and technical progress and the improvement of professional education. A large number of research teachers in their works indicate the need to improve both the methodological and educational material and technical base. Many ideas have found their application in practice. However, there are still a number of training problems that are reflected in the residual level of knowledge, low indicators of physical and professional training of employees, as well as the lack of interest in cognitive activity and the performance of official duties. The purpose of the work is to identify modern problems of professional initial training of fire protection personnel. Method or methodology of the work. The problems were identified by analyzing scientific works in this area and surveying fire service personnel in various regions of the Russian Federation. The answers to the questions revealed the existing problems and positive aspects of the current regulatory documents of the Russian Emergencies Ministry in the field of professional training. Scope of application of the results. The identified problems contributed to the search for solutions aimed at improving the level of professional training and the quality of initial training. The results of the study are used in further studies aimed at technologizing initial training and improving the professional training of fire service personnel in general. Novelty. Due to the small number of completed studies in the area of specific initial training, for the first time detailed answers were received that could reflect the existing problems in the initial training of fire service personnel. The answers to the questions of the questionnaire encouraged employees not only to indicate the problems and positive aspects of initial training, but also to assess the level of knowledge and skills, as well as to assess the participation of mentors, teachers, individual training managers and internships for a more in-depth analysis of the problem. As a result, for the first time, problems were identified related not only to the organization and provision of the educational process, but also to living conditions and the quality of the educational process. Conditions affecting the quality of the educational process were also identified. Conclusions. The conducted analysis of the responses to the questionnaire allowed us to identify current problems of professional initial training of fire protection personnel and the causes of these problems. The main reasons creating problems are different approaches of department heads to the organization and provision of the educational process, differentiation of regulatory documents and dishonesty of individual officials. Based on the identified problems, solutions were proposed aimed at improving the quality of initial training, the level of professional training and motivation for service by young employees.
