BUSINESS INTERNATIONALIZATION BARRIERS FOR SMALL AND MEDIUM BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS

Abstract. The study purpose is to identify key barriers to business internationalization for Far East small and medium-sized enterprises and determine the directions for overcoming them. Secondary data and the survey results of Far Eastern small and medium-sized businesses were used for a detailed analysis. The main information sources were Russian and foreign studies, research reports, survey materials from various organizations, and the results of our own research. Abstract-logical method, description methods, content analysis, and sociological survey methods were used. The article considers the barriers concept to business internationalization and various approaches to their classification presented in Russian and foreign studies. It was revealed that almost all researchers distinguish internal (endogenous) barriers associated with the organization’s work, its resources, strategic guidelines, and external (exogenous) barriers, which are heterogeneous in terms of their origin. Some external barriers are due to the national functioning conditions of small and medium-sized enterprises; others are due to the host foreign markets conditions. The internationalization problems of SME business are inherent in almost all countries, although it is possible to talk about some unique conditions that may be inherent in a specific industry group of small and medium enterprises in a specific territory, which caused interest in assessing the barriers to internationalization of Far Eastern SMEs business. The study is based on the expert’s assessments and surveys of individual SMEs in the region. The survey results showed that the business internationalization problems by small and medium enterprises of the Far East generally reflect the general problems characteristic of SMEs in the country, and the solution of these problems should be considered within the framework of further partnership between the state and business to assist exporters in entering foreign markets, which will ultimately lead to savings in efforts and financial costs for the new markets development.
