Abstract. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that in the current geopolitical realities, in the context of a constantly changing series of crises, there is a redistribution of tourist flows. This trend primarily affects domestic consumers of tourist services, as a reduction in outbound tourism contributes to an increase in the number of citizens vacationing in the regions of Russia. An assessment of the current state and prospects for the development of collective accommodation facilities will make it possible to assess whether the hotel industry in the Nizhny Novgorod region can cope with the increased demand caused by the growth of the domestic tourist flow. The purpose of the study is to assess the state and development trends of the housing sector at the regional level (Nizhny Novgorod region) using various statistical analysis methods. For these purposes, the natural and cost indicators of the placement area were considered, methods of analyzing dynamics, structure, correlation analysis, and forecasting were used. The period 2002-2023 was considered. The data source is Nizhegorodstat information resources. The results of the study showed an increase in the number of accommodation facilities by more than three times (mainly due to an increase in the number of hotel enterprises), an increase in the number of rooms, and the number of places to accommodate visitors. The share of hostels in the structure of collective accommodation facilities has increased, and the share of sanatorium–resort organizations has significantly decreased. In the structure of the hotel fund, the largest share is made up of accommodation facilities that are not assigned categories and three-star hotels. The lowest proportion is occupied by five-star and one-star hotels. Over the past two decades, the number of overnight stays per guest has sharply decreased (from seven to four), and the proportion of foreign citizens staying in the region’s accommodation facilities has decreased by two and a half times. The highest cumulative financial results were recorded in the period 2022-2023. High correlation values for the variable “number of collective places in accommodation facilities” were recorded with the variables “number of overnight stays” and “volume of investments in fixed assets”.
Keywords: statistical analysis, hospitality industry, collective accommodation facilities, hotel business, dynamics and structure analysis, correlation and regression analysis.
