Abstract. The article is devoted to the substantiation of the peculiarities of patriotic education of students in modern conditions. The topic of patriotism in pedagogical theory and practice has always attracted the attention of a large number of researchers. This is due to the fact that during the countless reforms there was a devaluation of civic-patriotic feelings, the destruction of universal human values, which, in turn, served as the basis for the aggravation of interstate contradictions, economic instability, deformation of many social structures, devaluation of spiritual and moral traditions, an increase in interethnic and interfaith conflicts, the incitement of interethnic hostility by various subcultures, etc. The designated problem carries a colossal civic meaning, but the concept of “patriotic education” has different definitions. Each of the researchers perceives patriotism in his own way, and therefore the essence of this concept is defined differently. The author of the article proves the thesis that along with standard curricula, teachers should use various forms, techniques and methods of working with students, including: thematic class hours, meetings with veterans of a special military operation, achievements and contributions to world civilization, excursions to memorable places, participation in all-Russian competitions, festivals, Spartakiads, etc. It is through the study of the history, traditions and culture of the native land, its achievements, the exploits of national heroes that the younger generation develops a deep connection with their small and large Motherland; a sense of pride and affection for its historical, social and cultural heritage; a sense of responsibility for providing an ideological foundation; the desire to build up the economic and political power of the country.
