Abstract. The article gives the analysis of the concept “professional rationality” in relation with the processes influencing the personal features of a student, who acts as a citizen of their own country. The features, that describe the professional rationality in the common educational approach and particularly with reference to the professional foreign-language training, are pointed out. In common sense professional rationality is focused on students’ cognition of areas of their future professional activity on the basis of cause-and-effect interpretation of facts, as well as on critical thinking of events and actions taken in the professional field. The analysis of the scientific works has led to revealing the specific features of professional rationality in relation to the professional foreign-language training: communicative approach; focus on the principle of dialogue between cultures; aiming at professional cognition and development on the basis of showing the personal features, which are significant while implementing the professional activity. This statement has become the basis for considering the professional rationality in close interrelation with personal features that describe a student as a citizen of the own country, in terms of realizing the educational content in a higher school. The authors have determined the fundamental areas which explain the specificity of organizing the way of students’ dealing with foreign media resources. The conclusions include the ideas that professional rationality and the student’s citizenship are in a strong interrelation with each other; it requires accounting these interrelations while analyzing the media resources and determining the prospects for further activities in the studied direction.
