Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of the process of formation of ethnocultural competence of students in the conditions of the modern information society, when rapid transformations are taking place in all government structures, especially in the education system. According to the new state educational standards, the Federal Law “On Education in the Russian Federation”, as well as the “Strategy of the State National Policy of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2025”, one of the priority tasks of the state educational policy is the education of the younger generation, focused on ethnocultural values, ready for meaningful recognition of the culture and traditions of different peoples. In the article, the authors prove the thesis that the study of the problem associated with ethnocultural education, with methods and methods for its improvement, is of current scientific and pedagogical interest, in connection with which the need arose to preserve and strengthen the progressive national traditions of its people, as well as get acquainted with traditions and customs of other peoples. Particularly relevant today is the problem of familiarizing students with national and cultural characteristics and developing cognitive interest in ethnic traditions. Possessing ethnocultural competence, young people become active, active bearers of humanistic ideas in the field of intercultural and interethnic relationships. It is this competence that contributes to the younger generation’s acceptance of ethnocultural differences, a conscious and respectful attitude towards the moral and value priorities of other peoples, and the formation of a willingness to demonstrate their individual qualities in a multicultural society. In the context of secondary vocational education, close interaction with national-local history museums, as well as with other cultural centers, can serve as a significant means of developing ethnocultural competence.
