Abstract. Air traffic controllers are the console part of the aviation transport system. They are the «conductors» of the sky, monitoring the accuracy, safety and efficiency of flights. However, against the background of pilots or pilots, about government work, where they compose songs and make heroic films, many people underestimate the role of an aviation dispatcher in the transport system, a job that, although not considered a “dangerous profession,” requires a high level of development of an important professional quality, some of which value stability and concentration. The article provides an example of a serious aviation incident, one of the reasons for which was the loss of situational awareness of the crew due to the inattention of the dispatcher. This article is devoted to characterizing the attention characteristics of cadets – future traffic controllers. The study involved 30 male cadets from the first to the third year of study. A feature of the theoretical preparation of psychophysiological measurements is their dependence on the properties of nervous processes. To assess the characteristics of attention, the «Attention Assessment» and «Noise Immunity» methods of the «NS-PsychoTest» software and hardware complex («Neurosoft», Ivanovo) were used. In contrast to verbal methods, which are widely used in professional selection, a significant advantage of software and hardware methods is the accuracy and the impossibility of subjects adjusting their results. As a result of the training, the cadets showed an average level of stability and attention, no significant differences were identified depending on the course of study. An assumption has been made about the effectiveness of initial psychological selection at the stages of admission to the institute when the first medical-year expert commission arises.
