Abstract. Based on the federal state educational standard of basic general education and secondary general education of the new generation, and also taking into account the Concept of the development of Russian mathematical education, the process of updating tasks relating to updating the content of the Mathematics curriculum is taking place. An innovative component of this process is the introduction of a new subject “Probability and Statistics” into the “Mathematics” curriculum. Studying the elements of probability theory and statistics allows you not only to immerse yourself in a fascinating and interesting learning process, but also contributes to the formation of the student’s mathematical culture and the development of probabilistic thinking. Also, in the learning process, it is necessary to show that the basic concepts, laws of probability theory and statistics are used not only in a narrow, specialized circle of mathematical and technical sciences, but also have wide application in economics, sociology, architecture and other sciences. The purpose of the study is to identify the main methodological features of studying the “Random Variables” section in a school mathematics course. The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that the main methodological features of the study of random variables are identified and described in detail, for each of which illustrative examples are given. Particular attention is paid to the process of drawing up the distribution law for a discrete random variable; an algorithm for its construction is described, which is described in detail using a specific example. The methodological features of studying the “Random Variables” section presented in the article can be successfully applied in the educational process of a practicing mathematics teacher, which will not only facilitate the teacher’s preparation for the lesson, but also contribute to a more effective study of this section.
Keywords: methodological features, random variables, mathematics, basic general education, secondary general education.
