MEDICAL EDUCATION: OVERVIEW OF DEVELOPMENT TRENDS

Abstract. The system of higher medical education has undergone significant transformations in recent years, concerning not only the content of education and the use of digital learning tools, but also the basic conceptual training of future physicians. New concepts and paradigms of Russian medical education are, to a greater extent, a reflection of current changes in the economy, technology and healthcare of the Russian Federation. When choosing a development strategy for the system of medical education, in general, and each higher education institution, in particular, it is necessary to take into account the global trends of changing medical education as well. The purpose of our study: to identify the main global trends of changing higher medical education as a result of review of research literature in this subject area. When analyzing the works, we paid attention to the original methodological approaches aimed at the implementation of new trends in the training of doctors of the future. A content analysis of publications by authors from the Russian Federation, USA, Sweden, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Kenya, Malaysia, and Germany resulted in the following significant trends, according to the researchers: 1) training focused on the formation of digital competencies; 2) humanistic approach to patients; 3) medical education focused on individual learning strategies; 4) implementation of project-based approach; 5) early integration of theory and practice. Generalization of the results showed that despite the significant interest in the digitalization of medical education, the formation of digital competencies of future doctors, the feasibility of digital applications and services in the learning process, the relevance of the humanistic approach to patients is still an important task of medical education system.
