Abstract. The article is devoted to the analysis of the problem of forming ideas about the language picture of the world among students in the conditions of a modern general education school. The relevance of the presented article is due to the fact that in modern pedagogical theory and practice, in connection with the rapid development of functional-semantic and pragmatic approaches, the problem of forming students’ ideas about the linguistic picture of the world that determines their worldview has received a powerful impetus. In this regard, in addition to the analysis, systematization and generalization of the definitions of the concept of “language picture of the world”, we also present some important areas for improving the problem of forming ideas about the language picture of the world among students, taking into account the national identity of the language picture of the world and the individual characteristics of students. It is the way of life of the people that predetermines the presence of most of the main cultural concepts that form the basis of the worldview. Based on the analysis of the studies, it can be concluded that the definition of “linguistic picture of the world” is objectified by the key lexeme “national linguistic reality”, which is characterized by low frequency in phraseological units. Initially, this concept was used in philosophy, the so-called internal perception of a person, which forms the image of the surrounding reality. However, recently the term “picture of the world” has been widely used in various fields of the humanities. This concept has different definitions in different disciplines. The linguistic picture of the world in the philosophical, psychological, pedagogical, linguistic sciences is considered from the position of perception and representation of a person about the surrounding reality, the reconstruction of its image in the mind. These images can convey feelings, emotions, or come from knowledge, reason, and skills.
