Abstract. Scientific activity today can be called one of the priority areas for the functioning of the education system in general and the military educational institution in particular. As a component of the educational process, scientific work occupies a leading place in the training and professional development of the teaching staff, as well as in improving the quality of training highly qualified specialists for the National Guard troops. The article reveals the main directions of the development of Russian science, taking into account the participation of higher educational institutions. The priority tasks of universities in the training of future specialists are revealed. The analysis of domestic and foreign scientific literature on the consideration of the importance of research work in the educational process of the university and the formation of research readiness of teachers is presented. The process of informing cadets about the order of organization of scientific work at the Rosgvardiya university is presented. The goals and objectives of the military scientific society of cadets are revealed. The article presents the results of a study based on the method of questioning and studying accounting documents confirming the results of cadets’ participation in scientific work. The article reveals the importance of the research readiness of teachers of military universities in the training of highly qualified specialists for the needs of the troops. Calculations are given to identify one of the components of the research readiness of teachers, which consists in determining the relevance of the research conducted by cadets.
