Abstract. Both theoretical and practical research methods are used to develop the content of school geographical education. All textbooks being developed before they are approved by the Ministry of Education, they must be checked in general education organizations. For control, observations are carried out in schools, questionnaires of both schoolchildren and teachers, as well as various discussions on the content of textbooks at methodological seminars. The article analyzes modern school textbooks on geography. During the analysis, such indicators as methodological, psychological, hygienic and aesthetic compliance of the textbook with the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard were taken into account. In the process of work, it was revealed that there are shortcomings in the textbooks. Comparative tables contain information not only on paper, but also electronic, which are purchased together with geography textbooks. In the course of the work, it was found that thanks to geography textbooks, schoolchildren are forming a geographical worldview. The correct formation of it serves as a guarantee of personal and subject learning outcomes for the student. Based on the analysis done, ways to modernize geography textbooks with general recommendations were proposed. An analysis of modern geography textbooks for students in grades 5-11 shows that they meet the requirements of the Federal State Educational Standard of Basic General Education. The modern century is considered the century of digitalization. All textbooks are now available in two formats: paper and electronic. The textbooks in digital form are also accompanied by additional materials in the form of electronic teaching kits, which are posted on the website of each publishing house.
