Abstract. The article discusses the role of interactive technologies in the educational process of higher education.The issues of using interactive teaching methods in the development of students’ communicative competence are considered. The concepts of “interactive method”, “interactive learning”, “communicative competence” are clarified. The experience of using the interactive tool “communicative duels” for the formation and development of communicative competence is represented. The rules and mandatory conditions for organizing an interactive lesson are listed. The authors used the interactive technology “communicative duels” to assess their impact on the effectiveness of training. The article presents examples of game situations. The necessity of using interactive teaching methods “communicative duels” for the development of students’ communicative competence is substantiated. The empirical basis of the work is the results of the content analysis of the in-depth interview. Respondents: participants of interactive classes and experts. The results of the empirical study allowed us to conclude that the skillful combination of interactive technology of interaction with students leads to an increase in the positive motivational background in the classroom, the responsibility of an individual student for the result of collective, group or pair work increases. It is concluded that the above-mentioned tool allows to improve the effectiveness of training. The authors’ analysis of the use of interactive technology “communicative duels” allowed us to identify and substantiate the following advantages of its use as an effective means of forming communicative competence in the educational process of higher education: the development of skills of reasoned argument and teamwork skills; improvement of skills to defend one’s point of view and work in a team; the ability to defend one’s point of view, correctly and with respect to the opponent, the formation of a culture of knowledge, including rules that facilitate the effective search, exchange and application of organizational knowledge, the development of the ability to convince, respond to arguments and questions of opponents; the improvement of public speaking skills; the development of logical and critical thinking; the formation of the ability to work with information in preparation for duels. All of the above allows us to conclude that “communicative duels” should be considered not in a narrow sense as an independent method, but in a broad sense – as a pedagogical technology.
