Abstract. The article deals with the features of labor training and technological training of schoolchildren in the system of general education in Russia. One of the problems in the general education training of students is the study of individual academic disciplines and the actual lack of an integrative component that allows developing the student’s ability to comprehensively apply educational subject results in real life situations. The authors of the article believe that such components, with a competent organization of the educational process, are the subject area “Technology”. The paper presents a brief overview of the development of labor education and training in various historical periods – training in crafts among the ancient Slavs, the period of formation of the state education system in the 18th century, training in needlework and home economics in women’s educational institutions and orphanages, the introduction of manual labor lessons in general educational institutions in Russia in the second half of the 19th century, labor training in the Soviet period and technology training from 1993 to the present. The role of the subject area “Technology” in modern general education schools is highlighted, as a factor that allows forming an educational environment in which students can perceive the world as a whole, and not as a list of individual disciplines studied in school.

Keywords: general education, labor training, labor education, manual labor, subject area “Technology”, teacher training.
