Abstract. The article analyzes the problems of the development of the system of professional education of cadets of military universities in Russia in modern geopolitical and socio-cultural conditions. The factors and conditions for reducing its effectiveness in the context of deep social changes are analyzed. The attempts to develop the system of professional education in the post-Soviet period are considered. The current state and problems of modern professional education in military universities are described. The need to develop a system of professional education based on the priority of the national idea and the values of the Russian officers is noted. The results of the research allowed the authors to believe that today in the system of military universities in Russia there is: a) the need to build professional education taking into account the quality of modern Russian youth and the mentality of the peoples of Russia; b) the need for more complete provision of military universities with officers of educational structures; c) in vocational education, it is necessary to use traditional and innovative forms and methods in a balanced way. Thus, the authors came to the conclusion that the system of professional education of military universities in the Russian Federation has all the resources and capabilities to successfully conduct the political education of civilian youth. In this situation, it is advisable to involve cadets in conducting classes and educational activities with students of educational organizations. Socio-pedagogical activity should be based on the theoretical foundations of the Russian military school, taking into account the mentality of the Russian (Russian) people, the historical goals and objectives of Russia.
