Abstract. The huge variety of threats that every Russian region faces today dictates the need to deepen the scientific knowledge available in society about the nature and classification of threats to the region’s economic security. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to develop theoretical ideas about the economic security of the region and the most complete classification of its threats. To achieve this goal, the authors clarified the concept of “threats to the economic security of the region”, systematized and supplemented the existing scientific ideas about the classification of these threats. It is proposed to expand recognized in scientific circles signs of classifying threats to the economic security of the region with such grounds as the degree of threat, according to which all threats to which the economic security of the region is exposed can be divided into catastrophic, critical, significant or moderate; type of economic security of the region, according to which all threats are divided into groups of threats: technological; energy; environmental; informational; technical and industrial; financial (including threats to budget, tax, currency, inflation, credit and banking security of the region, etc.) and raw material security of the region, etc. The article substantiates and graphically presents the most complete classification of threats (taking into account the author’s approach) and the system for ensuring the economic security of the region.
