Abstract. Level and dynamics of size of the salary in the Russian economy in a section of the aggregated categories busy is analyzed: heads of the enterprises and their divisions, experts, workers and employees. The official data of the Federal service of Russian statistics on wages in the period from 2009 to 2017 are used as a statistical base. Existence of higher differentiation of earnings of workers of a control system and experts is revealed, the size of the salary of workers and employees in whose work reproductive functions prevail is less differentiated. During the analyzed period there was a decrease in level of differentiation of compensation in a section of types of activity for each category occupied that is connected with reduction of influence of a branch factor and strengthening of impact of a market mechanism on process of formation of the salary of wage labor.
