Abstract.  The article raises the question of the need to develop methodological foundations for the professional education of modern Russian officers. Its role is being updated today by the aggressive Russophobic policies pursued by Western countries and the actual start of a hybrid war in the political, economic, informational and ideological spheres. It is taken into account that professional education in the coming years will take place under the aggressive pressure of globalization institutions on the traditional values of Russians and the destructive impact on social processes from the outside. The urgent need for a balance of traditions and innovations in education and the rejection of blind copying of pedagogical models alien to Russian citizens based on psychological manipulation is pointed out. There is an urgent need to create a national system for the continuous education of Russia’s heritage, in which professional education is based on a national idea and values. The paper identifies the possible foundations, tasks and directions of the formation of the methodological foundations of professional education of officers. The authors come to the conclusion that the theoretical basis for the study of issues of professional education of officers can be the ideas, concepts and theories needed to formulate and solve the research problem: philosophical and social value theories; psychological theories of value orientations; theory of military professional orientation of the personality; work in the field of values of the officer corps and military service; studies of the mentality and military culture of Russian officers; historical and analytical works revealing the ideas, ideals and values of the officer corps in their historical development and social interconnection; theory of military education; theories in the field of development of educational systems and professional military education; theories in the field of the formation of a value relation to ideas and ideals; theory in the field of methodology for the study of pedagogical systems.
