Abstract. The article examines and analyzes the stages of cooperation functioning in Russia after 1917. It shows a change in views on the role of cooperation in the conditions of “war communism” and the civil war. Changes in the views of coworkers on cooperation are discussed in detail: from its place in the distribution of products to the conclusion that the growth of cooperation is identical to the growth of socialism. In the final part of the article, the current state of cooperation is shown and the need for its more active state support is substantiated. The study of the historical paradigm of the development of cooperation in our country allows us to trace the peculiarities of its implementation in different economic structures and assess the role of cooperation in the development not only of agriculture, but also of the country’s economy as a whole. The fact that cooperation has a political role in solving a number of major social and economic problems makes the necessity of its research and propaganda in modern conditions even more relevant.
