Abstract. The article is devoted to researching the problems of preparing a person for intercultural foreign-language communication, based on intercultural communicative competence. The authors’ consideration of the given problem manifests itself in emphasizing the socio-cultural component of the intercultural communicative competence and identification of the appropriate socio-cultural competence, based on the personal national / ethnic identity, which influences the personal social behaviour in socio-cultural interactions with native speakers and bearers of foreign culture. Taking these facts into account, we have revealed those components of the socio-cultural competence, which provide personal preparedness for intercultural communication, when the person keeps and shows own socio-cultural features, typical for this person as a bearer of the native culture. This approach stipulates setting the complex tasks of developing not only linguistic and communicative competences of a person, but also socio-cultural ability. The held survey (poll) of the students has enabled to reveal capacity of the professional foreign-languages training for personal socio-cultural development of trainees; to set correlations between learning foreign languages, cultures and showing the features of the ethnic identity of the representatives of native and foreign cultures. The given conclusions can be applied in studying issues related to developing those components of socio-cultural competence which are significant in the context of reforming the system of education and society; reasoning of development of features that characterize ethnic identity of students, who learn foreign languages; building techniques of developing socio-cultural competence considered as a component of the professional competence of graduates.
